Review: The Thrift Book – India Knight

It was only recently that I realised I should probably stop saying that I want to be like India Knight when I grow up because, well, at 25, I am a grown up. I can’t remember exactly when I first came across India Knight, but there are numerous reasons why I want to be just like her, which include, but are not limited to, the following:she has a super cool name, she’s a columnist for The Times, she gets paid to write books and she’s both beautiful and intelligent.

And it was while I was interning in the publicity department of Penguin Publishers that I was given a copy of The Thrift Book – somewhat appropriate given that ‘interning’ in layman’s terms means ‘working for free’ and thus consequentially living off SFA.

Having previously written The Shops – a part guide/part memoir in which India Knight dissects everyone’s favourite past time and offers words of wisdom on exactly where to buy precisely what, came her follow up full of hints and tips of how to live a life of thrift. From a cheaper alternative to dry-cleaning (that actually works) to tasty ideas for cooking on a budget, The Thrift Book is a must have for anyone a) on a budget, or b) wanting to savvy up their shopping style – so that makes most of us then!

Divided into chapters including Food, Clothes, Having Fun and Beauty it’s a fun, informing and compulsive read from a woman who knows best and India Knight certainly puts the fabulous back into frugal.
